Lovin' the Mess

It's a work in progress, an unholy mess, but as time goes by I'm beginning to like it.

I thought my state-of-the-art kitchen deserved a classy new coffeemaker. It came with its own coffee. The selection of about 20 premeasured cuplets only included with the apparatues only held one that seemed like it might taste like coffee (the others were "hazelnut" and "melange Nantucket"). Unfortunately it was weak and tasteless. This needs work. The livingroom is overcrowded with oversized pieces and needs a mastermind to rethink my first plan. At least the tv works. A gerry-rigged temporary solution to the privacy and streetlight problem in the bedroom. But there is already an inviting place to sleep and dream of when it will all be neat and beautiful. I'm always happy to climb in.

It looks as if it will be great. OMG after "cleaning out" 40 years of stuff....... I'm still not ready to pack!!! Still cleaning out. So when I go to a 3 room...this is what I have to look forward to??
Keep posting, I need to know my future.

I'm thinking of you all the time, Carolyn. It will be like this only moreso when you downsize, because, don't forget, this is my third home since I sold my house!

Your kitchen looks fantastic and I think I have a crush on your stove.

Is that a case of Jägermeister I spy in your living room?

What you see is an unopened carton of books. It used to hold Jagermeister--haven't you heard that one of the best places to get cartons is from the nearest liquor store?

Faked you out, Steve.

My hat's off to you. I've been in the same place for 31 years with lots and lots of stuff. Your new place looks like it's going to be wonderful. Carol

Mary Lois! It's looking good. I saw our friend Cristina the other day and was reminded that I enjoyed meeting you at her place a while back. welcome to the neighborhood of Monroe St. How about a little R&R for you tomorrow, Sunday, 9/20, at my place. Hopefully, the sun will be shining and we can enjoy the great outdoors (less than great) in my backyard (garden?). I'd love to see you again. Joan 201-792-5073

So, so exciting to unpack and arrange everything. I know, I know I'm a dork, but I do love this sort of activity. Sorry about the coffee. Do you think it was the variety, or the amount in the premeasured 'cuplets?' Maybe not enough. Will you buy some midnight blue curtains to keep out the light? :<) I think they actually make something that blocks bright light???

Solved both the problems, Nan. I've ordered a black out "Duette" shade, which is an interesting honeycomb shade contraption that has its bottom half dark and top half sheer. When you want darkness, you roll it to the blackout half, and during the day you keep it on the light half, letting light through.

As for the coffee, I learned to used about 1/4 cup less water and the coffee comes out fine. The machine came with about 20 varieties, including tea, hot chocolate and decaf coffee. But man, when I want a coffeepot, I want coffee! I'm not crazy about the one cup at a time deal either, but I'll get used to it. The variety I liked best is called Nantucket Blend. Wonder if I can find that in a store somewhere?

Wishing you good luck, good health and much happiness in your new home. It is unreal how they are transforming the old apartments - I love your new kitchen. As I've told you before, I have many memories of 3rd & Madison when I was growing up and the many friends who lived there. Very vivid memories of Biggie's Clam Bar and the smell of grilling hot dogs and peppers & onions filled the neighborhood. My mouth is watering.
