There's something about his grinning rictus that I find somewhat troubling.

Then again, maybe I'd like Hillary a little better if her voice was modulated just a bit more.

Huckabee...just couldn't go for that one at all. As Kinky Friedman once said, "they only problem with Baptist's is they don't hold them under long enough."

McCain might be my man. As the Republican candidate, he'd be the first I've supported since 1996. But he still might be a loose cannon. I don't think we need another loose cannons after the past eight years.

Romney....don't like the dude.Elmer Gantryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10219215226532295453noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2680602048847357735.post-1959241075250002062008-02-03T11:11:00.000-08:002008-02-03T11:11:00.000-08:00I can't remember a politician who has impressed me...I can't remember a politician who has impressed me more than Barack Obama. I was very young when RFK was assassinated, but I would have to say that we (on the left) haven't seen a politician with Obama's talents since the Kennedys. People google Paula Deen Pecan Bars or garlic soup cold cure.

You might notice that I occasionally mention food over here -- note my instructions on how to poach an egg -- but not so much as your blog. What do you mean by "miss the food"?

As to whether the tribal urge to align with one party or the other is genetic, I would tend to think not, but it could have to do with how brains are wired. That would explain the passion with which an irrational political allegiance is defended...we have a lot to learn about some things.

In this country we have almost forgotten about Huckabee. He could be the biggest surprise on Tuesday. At this point we are just dealing with winnowing out candidates to go to the finish line in November, and the conventional wisdom, for those who do not follow my blog and my instructions, is that the two left standing will by Sens. M...applaud your eloquent words in praise of Obama. My line on him is that any policy wonk worth a damn can frame a policy, but that it's the rare individual who can touch the heart as deeply as Barrack does. The problems we've had with trying to get, say, a better health care policy hasn't been the lack of ideas, but the inability of their proponents to stir the grass roots. This government Madison et al arranged for us works fairly well, but would work a lot better I think if a leader (or leadership) could draw the people together as an active force. Of course, there are drawbacks, mostly associated with the attractions of so-called populism. The people can behave irrationally when moved by demagogic appeals to a particular issue. But I believe Obama directs his appeal more to our nobler angels, asking us to think rather than to automatically line up behind split infinitives -- or whatever.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2680602048847357735.post-89406709500551456332008-02-03T07:13:00.000-08:002008-02-03T07:13:00.000-08:00New research from Germany is saying that political...New research from Germany is saying that political alligence is actually genetic. They have been testing the nature/nurture argument on twins.

From Europe people are saying if Americans are feeling optimistic they'll vote for Obama if they are feeling the economic squeeze they'll vote for Huckabee.
